Guest Post Guidelines
I get a lot of guest post requests for Twenty-Something Travel. While this is great (I love having other people’s stories and opinions on the site), I can’t accommodate every request. Before you send me an email, please read my posting guidelines carefully:
IMPORTANT: I only accept guest posts from independent bloggers and writers. If you are writing on behalf of a company than that is considered a sponsored post, and you need to read my Sales page. If you email is going to include the words “clients,” “unique content” or “team of copywriters,” then you are probably asking for a sponsored post.
Now for everybody else:
If you would like to submit a guest post:
- Be Specific- When you email me please have a relevant topic in mind. Don’t just tell me you’d like to write “something.” I’m much more likely to be interested if you have a relevant topic already fleshed out. The more information you can give me, the better
- Be Relevant- Here are the kind of stories I’m looking for:
- A travel experience you’ve had or a lesson learned (E.g.: Time to Go? or My Summer of Yes)
- Some awesome, original advice (E.g.: Natural Remedies for the Weary Traveler orHow to Drink the Australian Way)
- Location based posts are okay, as long as they are unique- please no “10 things to do in New York” etc. I’d much rather have something a little more offbeat and personal (E.g.:Monkeying Around in Udaipur or A New Zealand Bucket List for Twenty-Somethings)
You don’t have to be a twenty-something to guest post, but your post should be relevant to travel for young adults.
- Be Human- Wanting to promote your blog is fine, but if I get the feeling you are a marketer or a company, I’m going to refer you to my advertising page. Because of an influx of spammy guest posters, please keep the main text free of hyperlinks. You can include a link back to your blog in your bio.
- Show me some samples of your work. You don’t have to be Bill Bryson but there is a certain standard of writing I like to maintain. Please include a link to your blog, or somewhere else you have posted. If you are totally new at this, I may ask you to send me the written piece before I make a decision.
- Please Be Patient- I can only run a couple guest posts per month, which means I may have to ask you to hold off for a few weeks or even a few months! It also means I simply don’t have room for everyone. It’s not personal, I swear.
Photo Posts: I run a featured photo every Friday, and am always looking for submissions. This is a far less competitive way to get your work featured.
- In your email please include the photo, or a link to the photo and a brief description.
Now that you’ve read my guidelines, please drop me a line at Steph@twenty-somethingtravel.com, with your guest post pitch!
