Best of the Blogosphere: July 2011
Posted on 28. Jul, 2011 by Steph in Links
It’s time again for the monthly roundup!
What’s Going on With Me:
Solo Female Travel: 9 Myths and 1 Truth- A guest post I did for my buddy Colm on the Hostel World blog on the biggest misconceptions of women traveling solo. It’s a pretty good pep talk!
Surprisingly Solo in Scotland- Another guest post, this time for Jeannie of Nomadic Chick. She asked me to talk about the first time I traveled solo, so I got all personal on her.
Travel Plans- July has been shockingly busy! After a mere two weeks of being home I spent a week in New York with old friends, then met up with Mike and spent some time at his parents home in the Poconos (there were deer! And maybe bears!). Then this past weekend there was a last minute jaunt to Mexico (more on this next week)…
My August plans are not finalized but I suspect will again be a mix of DC and the Poconos with some New York and Philadelphia thrown in. Maybe somewhere else by surprise- who knows these days!
And Here Are This Month’s Interesting Links from Around the Web:
The Best of Unbrave Girl Free E-book- Unbrave Girl- Do you like free? I do. I also really love Sally’s hilarious writings on working and traveling in Asia. If you haven’t read her before, here’s a great place to start!
Top 10 Tips for Surviving A Road Trip- Cailin Travels- Cailin recently drove across ALL of Canada, so she knows what she’s talking about. These are great tips.
What Happens When Your Once in a Lifetime Adventure is Over?- The Fearful Adventurer- So you plan this great big trip and you have an amazing time and then you come home and… now what?
Love Should Not Be My Drug- Nomadic Chick- Thoughtful and brutally honest piece on why love isn’t, and maybe shouldn’t be, everyone’s first priority. Great example of how travel can help us to work on ourselves.
Three Years of Sickness and Travel by the Numbers- Legal Nomads- one of the biggest anxieties new travelers seem to face is the prospect of getting sick on the road. Well, you probably will at some point and it probably won’t be as bad as you imagined. That said, Jodi has has some interesting and harrowing health adventures over the years.
Limoncello- The Travel Bite- Wait a minute, you can just make your own limoncello? Just like that? Consider me amazed.
Drug Violence: Is it Safe to Travel Mexico?- Journey Mexico- When I decided to go to Mexico I did some research and came to about the same conclusions as this article: you are far more likely to die from a car accident in the states then get shot as a tourist in Mexico.
What posts did you enjoy this month?

Thanks for including me! A lot of these were my own disasters in the making (why I thought it was an awesome idea to drive a motorbike on the side of a cliff is beyond me) but ultimately the takeaway is that I still love to travel and that the good outweighs the bad.
Great to see you last week!!

ooo I loved these! I didn’t read your guest post on Hostelworld so I’m going to head over and read that now!
Great round-up, and it sounds like you’ve been having a great summer so far! Enjoy!

FANTASTIC listing here. I discovered some great new sites here and read some great stories. My favorite is the one on what to do when your traveling is done. Thanks for sharing!
