Best of the Blogosphere: June 2011

Welcome back to my monthly link round-up!

What’s Going On With Me:

Everywhere Connection- Still working on fundraising for the big project! I you haven’t yet, please check out these 7 reasons to donate. We’ve also added some really fun new videos of me attempting to cook properly and Mike attempting to speak properly. Watch them- they’re funny!

July Travel Plans- I’ve  been home  for two weeks, which is clearly too long! On Monday I’m catching a ride up to NYC to see friends for a week before heading out to the Poconos to spend some time with Mike and his family. Then it’s back to DC for a bit.

Here Are Some of the Interesting Things on the Web This Month:

How Not to Die in a Plane Crash- The Awl- This article is just hilarious… unless you are afraid of flying I guess.

It’s Not Going to Turn Out the Way You Thought-The Freedom Tour- This is a new blog to me but Kate is clearly very wise. In this funny irreverent post she talks about a lesson that I think we all end up learning several times over.

Vancouver Riots 2011- Tourist 2 Townie- I thankfully missed the hockey riots in Vancouver by about 48 hours. My buddy and hostel-mate Gareth was still there though and here is his story.

Reading While Backpacking: It Works for Me- Runaway Juno- Like me, Juno is a big fan of reading on the road, and of bookstores around the world. Over the past 9 months of backpacking I’ve read over a dozen books, gathered from bookstores, random trades and hostel bookshelves. It’s been fun!

Common Misconceptions and Several Truths About Digital Nomads-FoxNomad- As I’ve been trying to explain to lots of people lately what it is I do and how unglamorous it can be, I really appreciated this article which demystifies digital nomadism.

An Instant Way to Add Flair to Your Travel and Tourism-Around The World L-Lillie visited Washington DC and learned that we actually do have a flair for style around here.

My List of Little Expat Joys- C’est Christine- As an ex-expat (?) I really appreciate Christine’s list of little joys for those missing the US.

Best Fast Food in the United States- Wandering Trader-Kind of an interesting twist on a travel article: Marcello illuminates the cuisine America is probably best known for: Fast food.

The Anatomy of a Burnout- Almost Fearless- The thing about travel burnout is that when it hits there is just nothing you can do but stop.

Won’t Look Back in Anger- The Shirt Off My Backpack- About a year ago Scott wrote a melancholy guest post for me about how his time to travel had past. Well since then he’s made some major life changes and decided to pursue traveling full time!

What stories did you enjoy this month?
