The Next Step: Everywhere Connection

Posted on 17. May, 2011 by in Housekeeping

I’m going home…. really soon!

If you don’t happen to follow me on Twitter, you might not have heard the news. I have a plane ticket home. On June 9th I will leave China and fly to Vancouver for the Travel Blog Exchange Conference (TBEX). I’ve never been to Western Canada so I’m pretty excited about this. Then, on June 14th, I will head back to Arlington Virginia, roughly 9 months after I left.

Yes, just 9 months. Why so soon? Well, the answer is that my trip isn’t actually over at all. It’s just on hiatus for a couple of months while I chill with family and work on the Next Step. Actually, I’ve been working on it really hard for awhile, so I’m thrilled that I can now share it with you:

Introducing… Everywhere Connection.

It was almost exactly a year ago that I met Mike at the last TBEX. We hit it off right away and almost immediately started talking about projects we could work on together. I floated the idea of a backpacking documentary- something that could combine his passion for video with my writing skills. Things just kind of grew from there.

What we are envisioning now is a kind of multi-media project that will incorporate blog posts, bi-weekly webisodes and audience participation. Mike and I will be backpacking South America for three months, trying to answer one big question: How has technology changed the way we travel?

I already know part of the answer: It’s changed a LOT. From wifi to social media to smart phones to (of course) full time travel bloggers and digital nomads, the way we travel and look at travel has changed dramatically in just the last 10 years. Mike and I want to explore that, and hopefully have some adventures and meet a lot of interesting people along the way.

This absolutely DOES NOT mean I’m abandoning Twenty-Something Travel! This website is my flagship, it is my home, and I want to keep providing the same funny stories and soapbox insights as ever. I will hopefully be doings some fun travel over the summer while I’m in the States, so you can look for stories here. Plus, once I head to South America, the fun can really begin…

I’ve really appreciated your guys support over the years, and I hope you will click over and check out my new project! Plus if you go now there’s a REALLY CUTE panda video. Promise.

Seriously! Pandas!

Sounds like a real exciting project! The “headquarters” are amazing too. By the way, I just wanted to let you know about this amazing book that has helped me a lot in making my travel blog look more professional and has also taught me how to make money. I hope you like it too. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004ZZM6YO

    The new project sounds cool.
I wonder when they’ll announce the location for TBEX11 Europe.

Unless TBEX Europe is somehow in Washington DC I don’t think I’ll be able to make it. I bet it will be a blast though!

The Everywhere Connection sounds like a really great project. I know technology has certainly influenced how I travel. Without it I wouldn’t be going to TBEX in June.

    Steph! This is mighty exciting!

Clearly I also very jealous of your upcoming travels to Vancouver (my old “home”)! Please (pretty pretty please) go to Uncle Fatih’s for a slice and The Naam for 24 hrs of all out deliciousness. Again, very jealous.

I will try to squeeze it in! Everyone seems to have food recommendations for Vancouver which is great! I need something besides Chinese food.

I just checked out the new site! Very exciting! Do you speak any Spanish? Does Mike?

Mike’s family is Argentinean so he speaks fluent Spanish. I have 4 years of useless high school Spanish behind me but I am determined to actually learn before we leave!

Steph, you owe me a visit in San Diego! Start in San Fran and drive the Pacific Coast Highway down, great way to see the Left Coast.

We have a lot of ideas but no set itinerary. I really want to go to Columbia. I know for sure we’ll be spending a good chunk of time in Argentina, since Mike still has a lot of family there.

Really interesting idea- can’t wait to see how it shapes up. I know we love taking video and our families and friends love watching it, so really interested to see how you incorporate that too.

I’m excited to meet at TBEX!

That’s great guys. The journey never has to stop, it just goes on as long as you want it to. Everywhere Connection sounds like a great project, if you make it to Morocco, be sure to come to the Fes region and say hi.
