Friday Postcard: Siena, Italy
Posted on 12. Nov, 2010 by Steph in Photos
Travelling through Europe, it’s easy to suffer from cathedral fatigue. Italy’s Siena Duomo – the Gothic marvel the Renaissance forgot – won’t disappoint, however. One of the first things you’ll notice about this Gothic masterpiece is the cacophony of detail on the facade. Take a moment to ponder how many hours the artists poured into sculptures that can barely be seen from the ground. Despite modern appearances, the Duomo wasn’t built to be a museum. More than a building to display beautiful things, it has housed eight centuries worth of human suffering, hopes, petty concerns, worship and joy.

I have in fact been to some of the places Hogwarts was set and they were pretty cool too.

Quite beautiful. Siena’s been on my list for a long time – would love to see this cathedral now.

Nice picture, it’s actually similar in colours to the HDR photo I took inside the science museum in London.

So true. You start thinking that you’ve seen one cathedral, you’ve seen ‘em all. Like hey, what’s that? The blood of Christ. Meh. Cool.
