Friday Postcard: Budapest, Hungary
Posted on 27. Aug, 2010 by Steph in Photos
The House of Terror in Budapest is more than just a museum, it’s a memorial to the many, many Hungarian victims of fascism and communism during the long 20th century. The building that houses it was once a prison and torture center for political dissidents. The history here is still raw and painful, but it’s clear that many Hungarians find a catharsis in visiting the memorial.

that’s a great shot! It took me a sec to figure out what it was. I’d love to go see that museum! Perhaps I’ll find myself in Budapest shortly…

Thanks! It’s a somber experience, but worthwhile.

You know, I’ve been living in Budapest for quite a while now, and I’ve still never gone into that house, though I’ve walked past it many times. Honestly I think I’m a little afraid of what I might find in there. But you made a good point about catharsis. Maybe I’ll go inside one day soon . . .

It’s not an easy afternoon, but it’s definitely worthwhile. Afterwards I felt like I understood the city a little bit better.
