Great list. Travelers to France might want to check out: Adam Gopnik’s Paris to the Moon. Claire, study abroad student in France, explains why: http://dev.pinkpangea.com/attempts-at-a-parisian-life-in-paris

There is a lot of Da Vinci code tourism out there I think- but the classics just add some romance to the experience

Yo know, I've never thought of this, but it is a great idea. It is a really cool idea actually, traveling somewhere where a famous book was written.

The only thing I can come up with is modern-day like "Davinci Code" and Paris, but it has much more romanticism when you combine classic lit!

Wow - using books as city guides - what an awesome idea. I am also a book nerd and want to say, "All hail the geeky travel Goddess." And what a great to boot!

About a Boy is a great book, as is High Fidelity. I'd add White Teeth by Zadie Smith and Brick Lane by Monica Ali.

What a wonderful post. Lovely idea. Perhaps a few more modern novels about London as well, About a Boy by Nick Hornby to name but one.

It's amazing how a good book can really change your perspective of a place. I love reading but funny enough have never read any of these, I'll have to track them down.

I read quite a bit of Dickens and Sherlock Holmes over there as well. Great versatility of fiction about that city.

Great list! Something about London + reading classic novels is just so spot on!

At gtrot we just released our free Insider's Guide to London, now it doesn't have books but it does have some of the best nightclubs, restaurants and shops off the regular traveler's radar. Check them out here: http://ow.ly/2bzyQ

Happy Travels!

Interesting choices, Steph. The Wasteland is a classic. Funny, whenever I think about London literature I've read, it tends to be period pieces (back when the primary mode of transport was the horse and buggy), nothing with a contemporary setting. That and mystery novels set in and around London.
