Friday Postcard: San Francisco, California

Posted on 11. Jun, 2010 by in Photos

Fishermen’s Wharf in San Francisco, with it’s street performers and t-shirt kisoks, is about as touristy as you can get. So it was a pleasant surprise to stumble into the cool and dark Musee Mecanique. This museum of antique coin operated games, peep shows and animatronics is something out of an RL Stine novel, but it’s still a pretty neat place to spend a couple hours and a few dollars.

Looks like my kind of place. It will be added to my “things I wanna see” list. How’d you find this place?

My friend read about it somewhere, one of the advantages of staying with the locals!

Use to visit this place as a kid when it was located at the Cliff House. I think it creeps me out more now that when I was a kid! But seriously, a cool place that really brings me back to my childhood.

I remember going to the Musee Mecanique a few times when I lived in San Francisco. It was at the Cliff House at Ocean Beach. I didn’t realize it had moved to Fisherman’s Wharf! Here in Las Vegas we have a Pinball Museum, which has hundreds and hundreds of vintage pinball machines that you can play.

    Hi,

Thanks for the nice post, we appreciate it. I just want to let you know that we at The Musée Mécanique have a new web site at http://www.museemecaniquesf.com or http://www.museemecaniquesf.com The site you’re linking to is not updated or owned by the Musée. It’d be great if you could change the link.

    Thanks
