Friday Postcard: The Grand Canyon

Posted on 09. Apr, 2010 by in Photos

I’ve been to the Grand Canyon twice; once as a little kid and once just a couple years ago. Both times my reaction has been the same: It just doesn’t look real. It’s so massive and so awe inspiring that it literally looks like a movie back-drop.

I know what you mean! I took a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon a few years ago, and it felt more like a motion-simulator ride than real. It’s just such a dramatic landscape, it’s hard to believe it’s real.

It’s really just too big and too much for the eyes to take in.

Somehow I’ve never made it to the Grand Canyon (despite a few trips to Arizona), but your picture convinced me even more that I need to go! It’s so close, yet so far away…

While I think the Grand Canyon is beautiful, I think there are two ways to enjoy it even more: Visit in the winter when it’s covered in snow and go to the North Rim, where there are fewer people and the scene takes on a whole different look.

I’ve never been in winter but I have seen it from both rims and I do thinks the North Rim is more interesting.

Beautiful shot Steph! I rafted through the Grand Canyon in 2003 – it was unbelievable.
