Friday Postcards: Dover, England
Posted on 23. Apr, 2010 by Steph in Photos

Of all the castles I’ve seen in England, Dover is the most impressive. It had to be. Perched over the English Channel, Dover Castle was the first line of defense against potential invaders (be they French marauders or German Nazis). It’s never been defeated and for this it is known as the “Key to England.”
The castle is full of secret passages and underground tunnels. They were used to plan the invasion of Dunkirk in WWII and are incredibly spooky. To date this is the only place I’ve ever seen an actual ghost!
Below is a shot of the famous white cliffs of Dover:

I walked to this castle from my B&B. I remember going up and up and up a very steep hill. It was well worth the trip. And I like to walk.
