Friday Postcard: Vatican City

Merry Christmas from Twenty-Something Travel!
I snapped this shot two days before Christmas 2006 in front of Saint Peter’s Basilica. Spending the week before Christmas in Italy was magical- especially for someone with an Italian Catholic heritage. I missed the epic nativity scene that apparently occurs in front of the Vatican on Christmas Eve, but here you can see them setting up. I really enjoyed that the scene of Christ’s birth apparently involved a very large Christmas tree.
I hope that you are all having a wonderful holiday season- wherever you happen to be!

The Christmas tree looks like it is laden with snow!

Wow, it’s so pretty with the Christmas tree out in front! I would love to see Vatican City decked out like this – it’s stunning anytime of the year, but the tree adds a bit of extra charm

What a great photo! I went to the Vatican for the first time this summer and was amazed at how beautiful it was, though I can imagine in was much more magical with snow and a Christmas tree!
