Friday Postcard: Ljubljana, Slovenia
Posted on 11. Dec, 2009 by Steph in Photos
Ljubljana is a mouthful of a name, but a surprisingly adorable city. Coming from hot and gritty Belgrade I immediatly fell in love with the wide avenues and pastel buildings. I don’t know if this fountain has a name. I stumbled across it wandering downtown, blueberry gelato in hand and a huge smile on my face.

I remember getting off the train after being in gritty Belgrade and thinking I’d died and gone to Disney Land.

Lovely! I love it when I accidentally find such nice fountains/statues on streets where you don’t expect them. They add to the charm of the place!

Good lord, I’ve never even heard of this place. And what is that guy doing? Is he trying to club something?

I can’t be sure but I think he’s getting sexy with a fish…

Hahaha you’re so right, he must be..!!
You wonder what the h**l he thought when he “designed” it… maybe some misunderstanding between the builders and the artist…
That’s what makes the statue charming I think, that it looks a little…strange…

Slovenia is a country that surprises guests with its unspoilt countryside and many-sided landscape in a small geographical area, while the uniqueness of a Slovenia travel often lies in the rich holidaymaker offer.

It’s Hercules fountain on the Old Square.
I’m glad you like Ljubljana and Slovenia! You were here in summer 2009 I suppose. I am sure you would like it even more now as a lot was done in the Centre.
– guy on the top of fountain is Hercules. He isn’t getting sexy with a fish (although, the idea is good
) but is killing the lion or hydra. The fountain was here for a long time before it was demolished at the end of the 18th century. The statue of Hercules was stored and then reused in the nineties of the twentieth century when a decision was made to restore the splendor of the square interpretation of the old Baroque fountain based on the original sculpture.
