Mountain Fortress at Kotor, originally uploaded by StephYo.
This mountain fortress in the coastal Montenegro town of Kotor is over 1000 years old and has never been conquered. It’s easy to see why, it is one imposing fort, with stone walls winding up and down the rocky passes. For 2 euros you can climb it yourself, a winding, mildly unsafe and exhausting trek which is well worth it for the dizzying views from the top.
