Blog Update and In Case You Missed it Links
Posted on 05. Nov, 2009 by Steph in Links, Resources
Happy (belated) Halloween! Halloween is my favorite holiday- I remember being so disappointed going to Britain and discovering that not everyone celebrates it as fervently as the Americans do. Ever since then I’ve tried to put my all into my Halloween costume. This year, as you can see, I was Carmen San Diego!
If you missed yesterdays news, Twenty-Something Travel was featured on Lonely Planet’s website! Obviously I was really excited and this news, coupled with my brand new home office is helping me to realize that as serious as I am about this blog, it’s time to ramp things up! I have a lot of big ideas that I will be working to make a reality in the next couple of months, so keep an eye out!
In other upcoming news, next thursday I will be co-hosting the very first DC Travel Writer Happy Hour with knowledgable dude Round-The-World Dave. It should be a great oppurtunity to meet come of the awesome bloggers who live nearby. If you are in the DC area and have some free time next Thursday evening, come down to the Liberty Tavern to say hello!
And here are your superbly interesting links from the last two weeks:
Everyone Says I’m Running Away- Always great Nomadic Matt explores the notion that frequent traveler’s are somehow avoiding the real world. The article and the comments are both insightful.
How to Plan a Round the World Trip- written by frequent commenter Shannon O’Donnell for Travel Writer Exchange, this article is an excellent introduction to the basics of setting up a big trip.
Are our fears killing off the next generation of backpackers?- Part of the reason I started this blog is to combat the misconceptions surrounding world travel, including this big one- that travel is somehow unsafe. This post on 501 Places asks if we are instilling a culture of fear into our children.
The Not-So-Lonely Solo Traveler- I think that often times people don’t realize that traveling solo does not necessarily mean being along. Gray at Solo Friendly explains some resources she uses to meet new people.
Has your life changed for the better after a piece of bad news?- One of our favorite writers, Grant Lingel wrote this inspiring guest article on CrazyJourneys.com about why a personal setback might be the best thing that ever happened to you.
Why You Can’t Afford Not To Take a Vacation- From the newly re-vamped Sharing Travel Experiences is a very sensible article on serious reasons to go traveling now.
I also want to remind you that you can follow Twenty-Something Travel on Facebook and Twitter for up to the minutes updates!
By the way, if you follow me on Twitter you can find out about helpful links, new posts and more all week long.

SMOKIN’! We’re an awesome duo. I seriously couldn’t find a proper hat though, so I ended up buying a red Christmas cowboy hat for $2, sewing black ribbon around it, and mangling the rim.
Did anybody NOT recognize you?

The hate came from Target actually! My one stop shop for pretty much everything.
I was actually shocked how man people knew who i was! I walked around downtown DC all night and nobody guessed wrong. I guess Carmen still lives in people’s memories…

Hahaha yeah, same here! Everyone knew me, except for one random who asked if I were a lady in red. Pshh, uncultured.

ha! I spent Halloween in London a few years ago and I remember feeling the exact same way. I was in Dublin for St. Patrick’s Day, though, so I guess that made up for it.

Great costume, although I admit I probably wouldn’t have known who you were (I was the generation before Carmen San Diego). Thanks for sharing these articles, I had not seen some of them. And thanks so much for including me!

Nice post. Thanks
