Cathedral Ruins, originally uploaded by StephYo.

The college town of St. Andrew’s is known primarily for it’s high ratio of bars to students and it’s famous alumni Prince William, but it is also home to some marvelous ruins. A modern cemetery has sprung up in the medieval skeleton of St. Andrew’s Cathedral.

St. Andrews can easily make a strong claim for most beautiful campus in the world. Ruined castle, ruined cathedral (once the largest cathedral in Scotland), cliff walks, picturesque little harbor, miles of beaches, the most famous golf course in the world, and the definitive quad, what more could you want?

Yes, I was completely bowled over wandering through the ruins at sunset, with the North Sea in the background. It’s an amazing place.

The ruins are magnificent, though a little bit spooky. :-)
