Friday Postcard: Bol, Croatia

Long armed Tree, originally uploaded by StephYo.

Look familiar?

I snapped this shot on Zlatni Rat, a long pinnacle of sand that changes shape with the tides. It had been raining earlier that afternoon so the most famous beach in Croatia was empty.

Something about this lone tree, blowing in the wind, standing strong while the sands around it shift, really speaks to me.

Hey I was an English major. Symbols are my thing!

What a wonderful character the tree has. Is it reaching out to the sea? It might well be. I wonder what stories they swap on days they have the beach to themselves.

Yes, it was reaching out towards the tip for the beach. There was a little wooded area further inland but this guy was the last defense against the sands.

And I like the spread of its canopy, like some wizened old man sharing words of wisdom with an impetuous ocean.
